I couldn't agree more - traveling and taking that leap into the unknown offers the most valuable experiences and education! I left the US in 1998 and ended up living throughout SE Asia and the Middle East for 9 years. Now back in Hawaii which is half way between Asia and the US in geography and culture and am very happy - yet after being here for nearly 18 years, I am now craving the international experience - I love the challenge of setting up a new life in a foreign country. I have fallen in love with France now through my three years of research and studying the language. I also used to have very naive assumptions about the country and its culture, but after doing much research and watching your video, I feel a closer understanding and need to go there. Good for you for taking that leap and making a new home there for yourself!

Very nicely done. I hope to someday convince my wife to move abroad. I am a general contractor in the US and would love to renovate a home in Europe someday.

Thank you for sharing this refreshing and honest video. I'm now nearing my 40's and I've been feeling this way since my early 30's. I too am insterested in deep and scintilating conversations and real sincere connections. I have tried for years and years to attempt to make new friends and meet a new partner too but until now not much luck really lol... At first I thought this made me lonely but I realized now that I totally feel much better being on my own than having any type of company that's too busy or scared to have any real connection with me. Is Better help in the US or in France?

I understand. This happened 10yrs ago...I was looking for a new house for over a year and now also had plans to go to a retreat in India in Feb. In Nov. I told my agent, that I was going to stop looking because I didn't want anything to interfere w the retreat. So I put my search on hold until March when I could start again. The end of March was when I found my forever home! It is important to trust the Intelligence beyond our minds and to get our priorities for our well being in proper order and surrender our selfish needs.

I am watching this as I am exercising here at the gym, trying to work off all the pastries I ate while we were in Paris. 😢 Thank you for all the great info! I'm going to do the intermittent fasting, and hopefully I can learn to live without indulging in so many of the pastries. I, too, love oat molk and find I have to completely eliminate it from my diet to see any progress. Thanks again for the great video (as usual) ❤

You're my kind of friend. They say people with community and such are better off. Yeah maybe, but that seems overly generalised to me. Not everyone thrives in the same situations. I thrived during lockdowns.

My father told me long ago, “When you are on your deathbed, you will be able to count your true friends throughout your lifetime on one hand.” He was speaking of loyalty and love. At 61 years of age, I now understand what he was saying.

I have never found friends easy to find, even at school. I get along with most people but very, very few are self aware and have questioning minds. Because I’m very independent and don’t feel needy of people I’ve learned to be ok with their differences, and with the fact that there is nothing wrong with them or me, we are just different. I don’t get lonely but I do get bored quite quickly with idle conversations. I have also found that friendship takes effort and not everybody chooses to make the effort, however good their intentions and apologies on the rare times you connect. Luckily I have a loving family, two of whom have questioning, self awareness.

The moment that I knew I had to leave America was when I was talking to a stranger in London. We were in a queue together and struck up a chat. He was asking me about America, Gun control, and I mentioned that I’d just started a new job and had to take an active shooter class. He looked at me with such pity, and said that is not protocol where he is from. Later that day, I cried in the hotel as I realized that I’d been so desensitized to the violence that training to survive was normal. I knew I had to leave. It wasn’t the place for me.

I recommend Nantes, Rennes or brittany for that matter. Beautiful countryside, outstanding cuisine, one hour from Paris. Yvelines is banlieue Real estate mucha more affordable.

What does a house like this cost?

I was interested in your comments on country restaurants. In the south (Valcluse), just about everywhere was mind-blowingly great. Not so much elsewhere. I was unimpressed by the restaurants in the Loire, for example. And we ran into a lot of bad spots in Lyon, which is supposed to the gastronomic capital of France. It might be for the Michelin-starred restaurants, but not so much for the regular, every day spots.

Wow, I've been following your channel for a year and this is the best episode I've watched! I don't have a favorite smoothie as all the healthy ones (I'm following a keto diet) are not tasty. I'm happy for you that you found the perfect smoothies for you and do everything to be as healthy as possible no matter at what age.

So beautifully captured and told! 🌿. I also love intermittent fasting and it helps to tame the desire to snack a lot. Love the documentary style of your videos. It is also the internal spark that some people lose and maybe find again. Some also need socializing and cultural experiences that makes you feel understood and connecting in a good way to people and nature, environment. Btw Cecilia looks so beautiful in that mala beads necklace :)

I'm so glad you did this video. This is part of the reason why my family is moving to France. Both mine and my husband's parents have shown us what happens when you give up on life... We didn't grow up with nutrition as a focus. With activity as a focus. In adulthood, we have learned how much we enjoy that. We will have the opportunity to explore that fully when we make the move. We do not have the tools in place quite yet to go all in as we would like... Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I have been watching for a long time.

I’m French living in Cali and the Paris area isn’t the best. Check the Charente-Maritime particularly the Cognac area. I remember you from originally Oregon. It will check a lot on your must have list.

Where is your lovely home located?

I really appreciate your candor and vulnerability. Not many men (especially older men) are as approachable as you are. I do think that as humans we need friends. One pitfall for some men is that they rely on their spouse for everything, including friendship. This can be overwhelming for a spouse. However, it sounds like you have developed a rich inner life which fulfills you. That is so very important. I think a person can have different types of friends at one time and throughout one’s life. Not every friendship has to go deep or go home. There can be room for a variety of relationships in one’s life, some deep and some more casual. The guy who only writes you on your birthday can still be a friend, just not a very connected and deep one. And that’s OK. We never really know who or how we impact other people. Being open and vulnerable as you are creates space for others to grow and you may never even know you had a hand in that.

You can take people out of America but you cannot take the American out of the people. In America you are your stuff. It's all so meaningless and exhausting. If I moved to France I would be happy with a tiny simple place and a few items of beauty, but I doubt that I would have close French friends due to my lack of fluency and would probably end up hanging out with other Americans, who would only be able to see what I don't have.

Seems you have too high expectations, you cannot dictate how your friends should be. Being with and sharing things with others enriches you, because others are not exactly like you! You might not need anyone, but maybe they need YOU. Think about that.

When can we expect some updates on Cecilia's wonderful finds, interior design and making it all happen across language barriers? I'd love to see a couple of eps on that, if she's ok with being on camera again.

If you are on such a healthy diet and exercise program why would you need to see French doctors? Seems contradictory. You may want to cut out the meat and dairy at which point you may realise that doctors are pretty unnecessary - unless you are simply going for an annual blood test. Also....all those powders are not necessarily healthy (they are not 'whole' foods), and actually can do more damage than good. If you are eating a wide spectrum of primarily plant based food (organic), you should be getting all of the nutrients you need. if you have a blood test that says you are lacking in something, then you can add a vitamin, or mineral that is lacking. We've been brainwashed to think we need supplements and powders - it's a racket. I suggest watching the 'Frontline' PBS and CBC documentary on UA-cam - about the dangers of vitamins and supplements. There are also other documentaries including 60 minutes Australia - The Supplement Industry is just as bad as Big Pharmaceuticals. Supplements contain heavy metals, Fungi, additives, and all manner of undesirable things you do not want to put in your body. PS.....love your dog.

I am a person who had many people in my life over the last 37 years, and now I’m at a point where I rarely feel connected to any of them at all. I can literally count on one hand with how many people I hold dear to me other than my family. I guess I’ve gone a little bit cold these days, but my inner peace is so much more stable after all of the experiences from over the last 12 years of my life. I love people, but I can do without interaction these days.
